Eng Jin's wedding @ G-Hotel

Saturday was a very memorable day. 3rd October 2009 as according to the Chinese calendar, it was also a very auspicious day, 15th day of the 8th moon (mid-autumn festival). There were many weddings out there! Even in this small island called Penang, there were several weddings going on. From town halls to 3 star hotels to 5 star hotels.

I attended my first wedding reception who is a friend of my own and not my dad's or any other relatives of mine. I have seen all my other friends attending weddings and have always been wondering "who shall be the first to invite me to his/her wedding?". I was proud enough to give my friend and his wife an ang pow! It was my first ang pow I have actually given out. People who attend weddings too frequently will usually say "another saman". Translation from Malay to English would mean "another ticket to pay".

The wedding was very lively with almost 450 people who attended the reception at G-Hotel (second wedding I attended there, first was my cousin's Sherene, which was a lovely wedding too). I was there with my brother. I am a very close friend to the groom's sister (I'd say the whole family). In the morning, they went to collect the bride from the bride's house and my brother was one of the "heng tai". A "heng tai" is like a grooms men but without dressing up in a tux. There were 7 of them and they were forced to play silly silly games (eg. tying 2 pears and a face of the groom near the crotch area and force the guys to eat them). LOLz!

[I told Shayan about this and he said he prefers to not get the bride and said the traditional way in Spain is the opposite, where the bride & bridesmaids will go to the groom's house to pick up the groom instead and they will be the one playing tricks on the girls *nonsense*! This is one of the reasons why i chose the title '(+) & (-) of a cross cultural wedding' cos this would be the (-) for Shayan who is a Spanish].

The best part was of the wedding was the videography which I am so tempted to hire the videographer for my own next year but it is so pricey @ the package starts from RM7000 for one night. But it was lovely and fun and fantastic! My brother looked so hangover in his so-very-red-tie! Check out on the other works of the videographer and his crews.

** In short, the wedding was really lovely but was one of a hectic night for the family members! But definitely a memorable one. **

P.S: This is a typical Chinese wedding with Chinese traditions.
